The week that was
Keeping this blog current is still a challenge for me. A quick review of some of the activities that took place last week that would be of interest to members of the OSS work-group and others ( I am hoping that this is a way of keeping members of the work-group informed without spamming them). Tuesday I attended the Government IT Officers executive meeting and gave feedback on the OSS work-group meeting that was held on the 29th of Feb. The main points from the OSS work-group meeting were around procurement, open standards (ODF implementation) and Thusong centres. We obviously felt that these centres must have open source solutions but there seems to be some debate on this issue. On Tuesday I also called into the Oasis ODF TC teleconference and since the OOXML decision was just announced, the impact of that on ODF was the main topic of discussion. Thursday afternoon we had a special FOSS steering committee meeting in which we discussed the FOSS road-map a document we hope to publish soon.
