I’m in Namibia this week attending the IST Africa conference and have had some connectivity issues so I have not been able to update this blog until now. On Wednesday I met with members from Sun, and we discussed sun’s support for our ODF implementation and the offer that Sun has made to government. The offer to the whole of government of Staroffice is covered in this article . I think that this offer made in support of our move to open standards as defined in the MIOS is significant as it is made in perpetuity, and can be installed on a single workstation or all the computers in Government. So I am sure that we will spend some time looking this gift horse in the mouth, (staroffice supports odf but it is not open source), it will be hard not to accept this offer as it will give us more options in our ODF adoption at almost no cost or obligation.
